The work involved in social services can be mentally challenging due to the severity of the social issues that are addressed daily. These challenges include exposure to the brutality of child abuse, homelessness for children and adolescents, and the exposure to family crisis situations. Over time these social disparities can emotionally affect an employee to the point of quick burnout and emotional distress.
